Saegis University Campus, one of the pioneer quality private higher education providers in Sri Lanka held its first ever graduation ceremony in grand scale at the BMICH on the 13th of March 2017.
Over 200 graduands were conferred with Heriot Watt Degree qualifications, Higher National Diploma qualifications from Scottish Qualification Authority and Saegis English Diploma qualifications at this exceptionally well organized ceremony. To be able to a hold a grand graduation ceremony within just four years since the inception of Saegis University Campus was a proud moment for all. The event started off with the ceremonial procession of the graduands followed by the officials and staff members and with the chief guest, other distinguished guests and Management of Saegis University Campus being invited to light the traditional oil lamp.
Professor Sampath Amaratunga, Vice Chancellor, University of Sri Jayawardenapura graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the ceremony, whilst Mr. W.K.H. Wegapitiya, Chairman, Laugfs Holdings Ltd and Mr. P.G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena, Chairman, Sri Lanka Telecom were in attendance as the Guests of honour. Ruth Moir- Assistant Vice Chancellor Heriot Watt UK, Professor Ken O’Gorman- Professor and Head of management, Heriot Watt University UK, Alistair Shaw- Head of International and other distinguished guests from Scottish Qualification Authority were also present at this occasion.
The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of Achievement Awards to students who performed exceptionally well at their respective study programmes. SQA Ambassadors – Higher National Diploma, high achievers’ awards were presented to N. Thavarajah, D.Y. Abeywardana, M.S.N. Perera, J.M.I.I. Jayakody, K.G. Nadarajah and H.G.C.P. Gajanayake whilst the Prize Winner for Diploma in English was H.D. Wickramarachchi

As an educational entrepreneur, his message to the graduands was to ‘pursue their passions, to work hard and to remain sharply aware of the foreseeable and perpetual changes in the world around them and the new possibilities they create.” Also congratulating the new graduands CEO/ Vice Chancellor Designate, Prof. Samson Ekanayake warmly stated that “Saegis graduates are now part of the human capital necessary for growth and development of our own country as well as global community.”
The Chief guest of the ceremony, Professor Sampath Amaratunga, Vice Chancellor, University of Sri Jayawardenapura and the Guest of Honour Mr. W.K.H. Wegapitiya, Chairman, Laugfs Holdings Ltd, Professor Kevin O’Gorman, Heriot-Watt University and Mr Alistair Shaw, Scottish Qualification Authority made speeches. The speeches of Professor Sampath Amartunga and Mr Wegapitiya contained valuable advice and ample encouragement to graduating students.
Saegis University Campus is proud and humbled by their on-going success and considers it a great privilege and an honour to have their graduates joining the Sri Lankan workforce in taking active citizenship forward and emerging as the next generation leaders of the country.
Mr. David Samuel, Country Manager, Deakin University, Australia, Mr. Uditha K Palihakkara , Chairman of the Finance Commission of Sri Lanka, Mr. Asita Tawatte, Chairman of Management Systems Ltd., Director Central Finance Company, , Director Sunshine Holding PLC, Mr. Sujeewa Rajapakse, Managing Partner, BDO Partners and Member of the Senate Sri Jayawardenapura University were amongst other distinguished guests at the graduation ceremony.
Mr Bandara Dissanayake, Chairman Saegis University Campus, Prof. Samson Ekanayake, Vice Chancellor/CEO Saegis University Campus, Dr Suminda Ranasinghe, Dean, Saegis University Campus and Dr Gamini Padmaperuma, Associate Dean Saegis University Campus together with their well-qualified and highly ranked faculty members and dedicated academic and administration teams contributed greatly towards making Saegis University Graduation an enriching and a truly a memorable experience for their newly minted graduates.
The graduation ceremony was marked with dances performed by Channa and Upuli Dancing Academy and was followed by refreshments catered by Mount Lavinia Hotel. The ceremony was compered by Faizal Bonzo and Sharon Mascarenz.
